Amazon.com Purchases eBook Reader Software Company
The company buys the maker of the Stanza e-book application for the iPhone, Lexcycle.
Wired PR News – Amazon.com Inc.’s recent company purchase is expected to help expand its presence in the market for electronic books. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), the retailer of the popular Kindle e-book reader bought Lexcycle, the maker of the Stanza iPhone application for ebooks, under undisclosed financial terms.
As noted by the AP, the Stanza enables iPhone and iPod Touch users to download 100,000 books using their devices in a format not supported by the Kindle, but widely used by publishers in the creation of e-book files.
Marc Prud’hommeaux, Lecycle founder, is quoted in the report as stating of the purchase, “It has been an amazing experience to see Stanza grow out of our brainstormed ideas into one of the most downloaded iPhone applications… We are not planning any changes in the Stanza application or user experience as a result of the acquisition.”
