Military Messages Spread Via Facebook
Military branches use popular social networking sites to target recruits.
Wired PR News – Various branches of the military are finding social networking sites a useful resource for targeting audiences for recruitment. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), the Army and Air Force are two branches that have established pages on popular sites such as Facebook and Twitter to reach out to potential recruits.
Individuals and their families can reportedly obtain the same kind of information found on military websites in addition to chat forums. Danny Andazola, an Army reservist, is quoted in the report as stating of the Army’s Facebook page, “Everyone has an opinion and it’s amazing that the Army is showing both sides…When younger people see comments from both sides, it can easily help them decide if the Army culture is for them.”
As noted by the AP, the Navy, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard are utilizing online media for recruitment and other purposes as well.
