The MBTA plans to ban cell phone use by operators of buses and trains

The head of the transit authority is set to ban cell phone use by operators.

Wired PR News – Following a Massachusetts trolley collision, in which the conductor reportedly admitted to texting beforehand, the head of the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority announced plans to ban the use of cell phones by operators of buses and trains, as reported by the Associated Press (AP).

Daniel Grabauskas, general manager of the transportation authority, is quoted in the AP as stating of the plans, “I want to remove any temptation by one or two people stupid enough to think a moment of convenience is worth the lives of the people they’re transporting… I’m not going to wait for someone to die to institute a policy whose time I think has come.”

As noted in the report, approximately 50 individuals were injured in the underground crash in Boston that occurred on Friday; however, none sustained life-threatening injuries.
