Former Soldier Convicted in Iraq Family Killing
A Kentucky jury is set to weigh penalty for former soldier.
Wired PR News – A former soldier was recently convicted of murder in the slaying of an Iraq family. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), ex-Army Pfc. Steven Dale Green has been convicted in the 2006 killings of 14 year-old Abeer Qassim al-Janabi and her family. Green was also convicted of raping the teenage girl.
As noted by the AP, a Kentucky jury was set to determine punishment for Green’s crimes on Monday. Attorneys for the former soldier reportedly sought to prevent him from receiving the death penalty. Darren Wolff, one of Green’s attorneys is quoted in the report as stating, “Is this verdict a surprise to us? No. The goal has always been to save our client’s life… And, now we’re going to go to the most important phase, which is the sentencing phase and we’re going to accomplish that goal.”
