Governor Rick Perry has signed a bill that provides additional protections for journalists in Texas.
Wired PR News – Texas Governor Rick Perry has recently signed a bill into law that provides additional protections for Texas journalists. As reported by the Dallas Business Journal, House Bill 670, which is set to take effect immediately, will allow protections for journalists in regards to disclosing information about their sources in some situations.
As noted in the report, some exceptions may apply to particular circumstances, including cases when the source is witnessed or confesses to committing a felony, as outlined in the legislation.
Perry is quoted by the Dallas Business Journal as commenting in a statement, “This was a complex issue that required thoughtful consideration, and I am pleased that lawmakers were able to strike a balance between protecting the rights of the people and the press.”
