Abnormal Heartbeat Connected to Dementia Disease
A new study suggests a link exists between irregular heartbeat and Alzheimer’s Disease.
Wired PR News – A new study finds that irregular heartbeat may be tied to the development of Alzheimer’s Disease. As reported by Health Day News, a study conducted on 37,000 individuals showed there to be a relationship between atrial fibrillation, an abnormal heartbeat condition, and the dementia disease. The findings may reportedly lead to the development of more treatments beneficial in the prevention of Alzheimer’s.
Dr. T. Jared Bunch, the study’s author, is quoted in the report as saying of the correlation, “We can’t say yet that it is causal…We can say it is related to heightened risk. The next step is to look at the mechanistic association, to understand how one predisposes to the other.”
Bunch is further noted to state that the study differed from earlier ones that have identified this type of relationship because it is the first involving a large-scale population to show an atrial fibrillation/ Alzheimer’s connection.
