Warrant Issued for Mother of 13 Year-Old Cancer Patient
An arrest warrant has been issued for the teenager’s mother after she missed a court hearing Tuesday.
Wired PR News — An arrest warrant for the mother of a 13 year old with cancer has been issued in regards to her refusal to obtain recommended medical treatment for her son. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), a judge issued the warrant Tuesday after Colleen Hauser failed to show up for a hearing regarding the welfare of her son Daniel, having reportedly fled with the teen.
As noted by the AP, the 13 year-old’s parents decided to refuse chemotherapy and radiation treatments for their son, despite his condition reportedly being highly curable with the treatments. The family chose to pursue alternative medicines due to their religious beliefs. Brown County District Judge John Rodenberg, who last week ruled the parents to be medically negligent, is quoted by the AP as stating, “The court’s priority at this point is to try to get Daniel Hauser and get him the care he needs.”
