A team of astronauts tested water on Wednesday that had been made available from recycled urine.
Wired PR News – Astronauts drank recycled urine Wednesday to test out the results of an international space station’s urine recycling system. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), a three-man crew aboard the space station drank water that had been recycled from urine, sweat, and exhaled air.
As noted by the AP, the success of the system test has been deemed a milestone that will enable NASA to save on water shipped to the space station. Michael Barratt, an American astronaut is quoted in the report as stating of the drink, “The taste is great… This is something that had been the stuff of science fiction.”
Barratt is further quoted as humorously stating, “We are happy to have this water work through the system — we’re happy to have it work through our systems.”
