Mother Charged in Playground Killing

A New Mexico mother has been charged with killing her son.

Wired PR News – A New Mexico mother has been charged with killing her three year-old son on a playground. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), 23 year-old Tiffany Toribio was arrested on murder charges Thursday after confessing to suffocating the child while he slept on playground equipment. The young boy’s body was later found in the sand by another mother who was visiting the park with her children.

Cmdr. Michael Geier is quoted by the AP as stating of the crime, “For a mother to kill her own child is unfathomable. Most people can’t even imagine how you could even think about doing something like that.” Toribio had reportedly become homeless due to allegedly mistreating the child days before the murder, and being forced to leave her mother’s home.

Police Chief Ray Schultz is quoted in the report as emotionally stating, “What makes this story especially sad was when asked the reason why she took Ty’s life, Tiffany said that she did not want him to grow up with no one caring about him the same way that she had grown up with no one caring about her.”
