The GOP has reportedly threatened a filibuster for Obama’s Supreme Court choice.
Wired PR News – A GOP senator has expressed intentions of filibustering the president’s choice for Supreme Court justice if he is not satisfied with his decision. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), Arizona Senator Jon Kyl has stated that he would attempt to utilize the option if President Barack Obama’s pick is one who uses empathy in decision making, despite the Republican party likely having an insufficient number of votes to sustain a filibuster.
Kyl is quoted by the AP as stating, “We will distinguish between a liberal judge on one side and one who doesn’t decide cases on the merits but, rather, on the basis of his or her preconceived ideas.”
Obama is quoted in the report as stating Saturday during an interview of the candidate he’s seeking, “You have to have not only the intellect to be able to effectively apply the law to cases before you… But you have to be able to stand in somebody else’s shoes and see through their eyes and get a sense of how the law might work or not work in practical day-to-day living.”
