An 8th grader from Carrolton has advanced to the Scripps National Spelling Bee.
Wired PR News – A Carrolton 8th grader is set to compete in the Scripps National Spelling Bee. As reported by the Dallas Morning News, Mouctika L. Paluri earned a spot in the competition after winning the Dallas Morning News Regional Spelling Bee.
Mouctika, 13, is quoted by the Dallas Morning News as stating of her preparation for the event, “I just study the word list they have on the Web site and a list my mom makes… She gets the words off the Internet and dictionaries and puts it together for me.” The student, who has been in national spelling competitions before, is further quoted as stating of how her past experience will be of benefit, “You get more experience and you know what to study and how to study so you’re better prepared.”
As noted in the report, the three-day spelling event, which began Tuesday, is being held in Washington, D.C.
