Obama Seeks to Ward Off Sotomayor Criticism

The president remarked in an interview that his Supreme Court justice nominee choice would restate a controversial comment.
Wired PR News – President Barack Obama sought to change the focus of those criticizing his choice for Supreme Court Justice nominee in an interview on Friday. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), Obama remarked that Sonia Sotomayor’s controversial comment from 2001, in which she stated, as quoted by the AP, “I would hope that a wise Latina woman with the richness of her experiences would more often than not reach a better conclusion than a white male who hasn’t lived that life,” has been taken out context by critics.
Obama is quoted in the report as stating in a NBC News interview, “I’m sure she would have restated it…I think that when she’s appearing before the Senate committee, in her confirmation process, I think all this nonsense that is being spewed out will be revealed for what it is.”
