Government Provides Funding for Asbestos Diseases
A federal grant has been provided to help individuals with asbestos diseases in Lincoln County.
Mesothelioma Cancer News (Libby, Montana) – A federal grant has been provided for helping individuals in Lincoln County with dealing with asbestos related diseases. As reported by The Western News, the United States Department of Health and Human Services is providing the county with $6 million in health care funding for sufferers.
Senator Max Baucus of Montana is quoted in the reported as stating of the grant, “Six million dollars is a good, healthy start… I’m quite hopeful that it may lead to a declaration (of a public health emergency).”
The grant will help residents of Libby, Montana, who have been the focus of a recent lawsuit that alleged chemical company W.R. Grace & Company knowingly contaminated the small town with asbestos. Numerous residents have reportedly developed mesothelioma and other asbestos related diseases as a result. Baucus is further quoted as stating, “In my many years working on this… this is the first time I’ve felt a major breakthrough in Libby.”
