Tetris Still an Icon After Decades
The video game celebrates its 25th birthday this week.
Wired PR News – Tetris, once a lone ruler of the gaming world, to many was believed to have faded into the background. However, it has proven to be a game that has withstood the test of time. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), Tetris is celebrating its 25th birthday this week, and for some is as much a favorite today as it was for gamers decades ago.
As noted by the AP, Tetris was created in 1984 by a programmer in the Soviet Union. The game is now widely played on computers, social networking sites like Facebook, and the iPhone in addition to gaming consoles.
John Clemente, a Tetris player, is quoted in the report as stating of his history with the game, “I’d stay up, wait for my parents to go to bed, smuggle my Nintendo into my bedroom, hook it up to my television and play this game until all hours of the morning.”
