Analog Switch Causes Huge Stir
Hundreds of thousands of people called the hotline Friday with questions about the nationwide switch.
Wired PR News – The mandatory nationwide switch to digital television caused confusion for hundreds of thousands of individuals Friday. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), almost 700,000 people called in to the federal hotline set aside for those with questions.
As noted in the report, 317,450 calls were received by 1-888-CALL-FCC on Friday, with thousands more following the next day. Friday was the day the final switches were made. Many callers were also reportedly inquiring about the coupon offered by the federal government for those needing converter boxes.
Michael Copps, Chairman of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), is quoted by the AP as stating, “Our job is far from over… This transition is not a one-day affair. We have known about re-scanning and reception issues for some time and have been doing our best to get the word out.”
