House Approves Anti-Smoking Legislation
The new bill will give the FDA tobacco regulation authority.
Wired PR News – A recently passed historic measure is expected to save thousands of lives by allowing for more regulation of tobacco products. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), the anti-smoking legislation, given final approval by the House last week, will allow the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to regulate tobacco product ingredients and make demands in regards to necessary changes for the safety of consumers.
Obama is quoted in the report as stating of the bill, which he vowed to sign quickly, “For over a decade, leaders of both parties have fought to prevent tobacco companies from marketing their products to children and provide the public with the information they need to understand what a dangerous habit this is.”
As noted by the AP, an estimated 400,000 people in the United States reportedly die each year due to smoking.
