Homeopathic Nasal Spray May Lead to Loss of Smell
The FDA has released a warning about the use of Zicam nasal spray.
Wired PR News – The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has released a warning regarding the use of an over the counter product that may reportedly lead to a loss of smell in users. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), the FDA announced Tuesday that Zicam Cold Remedy nasal gel and other products related to the Homeopathic treatment may permanently cause damage to nerves needed for smell, due to the ingredient zinc.
Dr. Charles Lee with the FDA’s compliance division is quoted in the report as stating of the matter, “Loss of the sense of smell is potentially life threatening and may be permanent… People without the sense of smell may not be able to detect dangerous life situations, such as gas leaks or something burning in the house.”
The FDA has warned consumers against use of the product and manufacturer Matrixx Initiatives will reportedly withdraw it from the market.
