Republican Senator Steps Down from Leadership Role After Affair
Senator John Ensign admits to an affair with a former staffer.
Wired PR News – Republican Senator John Ensign has chosen to step down from his post as a GOP leader. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), the senator’s decision was announced the day after an admission that he had an affair with a former staffer during his campaign. The affair was stated to last from December 2007 to August 2008.
As noted in the report, Ensign reportedly discussed his resignation via telephone with Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell, who stated he had accepted the decision. Ensign had formerly occupied the position as chairman of the Republican Policy Committee, which is stated to be the fourth ranking post of the GOP leadership.
As further noted by the AP, there has yet to be any suggestion as to why Ensign chose to reveal the affair this week.
