Sotomayer Resigns from Club After Criticism
The Supreme Court Justice nominee quit membership in an elite women’s club after controversy.
Wired PR News – Supreme Court Justice nominee, Sonia Sotomayer, has chosen to end her participation in a women’s club after Republicans criticized her for being a member. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), Sotomayer resigned Friday from the Belizean Grove following accusations by the GOP that the group was discriminatory against men.
As noted by the AP Sotomayer stated her decision was to help ensure that questions regarding her membership in the organization would not be a distraction for being confirmed to the Supreme Court.
The Belizean Grove’s website is quoted in the report as stating of the group, “The Belizean Grove is a constellation of influential women who are key decision makers in the profit, non-profit and social sectors; who build long term mutually beneficial relationships in order to both take charge of their own destinies and help others to do the same.”
