World Hunger Bleak Milestone
The United Nations has stated that world hunger has reached the one billion mark.
Wired PR News – World hunger has reached record numbers amid a financial crisis that has spanned across the globe. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), the United Nations (U.N.) has estimated that world hunger has reached the one billion mark, which is said to be attributed to issues such as war, inflation, and political instability.
As noted by the AP, the number is 100 million more people than last year. U.N. Food and Agricultural Organization Director-General Jacques Diouf is quoted in the report as stating of the issue, “No part of the world is immune… All world regions have been affected by the rise of food insecurity.”
Josette Sheeran of the Rome based U.N. agency, the World Food Program, is further quoted by the AP as stating, “A hungry world is a dangerous world… Without food, people have only three options: They riot, they emigrate or they die. None of these are acceptable options.”
