South Carolina Governor Confesses to Affair
Gov. Mark Sanford admits to having affair after absence.
Wired PR News – South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford made an admission Wednesday that he had been unfaithful to his wife. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), Sanford stated after a seven-day absence that he had been visiting a woman in Argentina with whom he had carried on an affair.
The 49 year-old governor is quoted by the AP as stating during a news conference, “I’ve been unfaithful to my wife… What I did was wrong. Period.” Sanford also resigned from his post with the Republican Governors Association, as he apologized for the indiscretion.
As noted in the report, Sanford did not reveal the identity of the woman, but stated that the affair would not continue. However, some are now calling for the governor’s resignation. State Rep. Todd Rutherford of Columbia is quoted by the AP as stating, “There is nothing left to save… There is no reason for him to remain as governor.”
