Cheerleading Deemed Most Dangerous Sport
A new study has classified cheerleading as the sport leading in the number of associated serious injuries and deaths each year.
Wired PR News – A new report has named cheerleading as the most dangerous of high school and college sports. As reported by LiveScience.com, despite an increase in safety efforts, the sport is said to lead to the highest number of serious or deadly injuries than others, with gymnastics and track trailing behind.
As noted in the report, the information from the National Center for Catastrophic Sports Injury Research at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill was recently released in their annual report.
Frederick O. Mueller, author of the study, is quoted by LiveScience as stating of the information, “Progress has been slow, but there has been an increased emphasis on cheerleading safety… Continued data collection on all types of cheerleading injuries will hopefully show that these safety measures are working to reduce injuries.”
