Franken Declared Winner in Senate Race
The Minnesota candidate was declared the winner in a unanimous state Supreme Court decision.
Wired PR News – Al Franken has been named the winner in the race for the Minnesota senate seat. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), Franken’s Republican opponent Norm Coleman conceded following a unanimous decision by the state Supreme Court that Franken be declared the winner Tuesday.
Coleman is quoted by the AP as stating of the ruling, “The Supreme Court has made its decision and I will abide by the results… Sure I wanted to win… I thought we had a better case. But the court has spoken.”
As noted in the report, Franken’s seating will provide Senate Democrats with more than the 60 seats needed to defeat filibusters against proposed legislation.
Minnesota Sen. Amy Klobuchar is quoted as stating of the win, “This victory was hard earned for Al Franken and his family… Franni Franken had a suitcase packed, ready to go to Washington at a moment’s notice, like you do when you’re waiting to have a baby. She had a toothbrush, clothes, all of that, ready to go.”
