Colin Powell Remarks on Iraq Surge
The former Secretary of State says the U.S. should have strengthened its Iraq forces earlier on.
Press Release Service - Wired PR News – Former Secretary of State Colin Powell remarked in a recent CNN interview that the United States should have strengthened its forces in Iraq sooner. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), Powell stated that an earlier response may have warranted a different outcome with regards to the ongoing war.
Powell is quoted in the report as stating to CNN’s “State of the Union,” “I think we would have been in a much different place if we had surged in the fall of 2003, rather than many years later.” Powell commented in regards to initial successes in 2003 during the administration of former president George W. Bush, “Unfortunately, the war wasn’t over… The war was just beginning. And then it took us, in my judgment, too long to recognize that we needed to put more force in.”
