Bottled Water Safety Data Sought by Lawmakers
Lawmakers are reportedly seeking information from bottled water companies on their water sources.
Press Release Service – Wired PR News – Lawmakers are reportedly seeking information on water bottling sources to ensure the safety of bottled water products. As reported by Reuters, 13 bottled water companies were directed Wednesday by U.S. lawmakers to provide them with information about their water sources and testing.
Democratic Representative Bart Stupak is quoted in the report as writing in a statement that a prior hearing, “found that neither the public nor federal regulators know nearly enough about” the sources of bottled water, or how companies ensure it’s safety.
Stupak is further quoted by Reuters as adding, “The majority of consumers purchase bottled water because of perceived health and safety benefits, but they actually know very little about the quality of the water they are buying.”
As noted in the report, companies who received letters requesting information include Coca-Cola and Nestle.
