Job Seekers Targets of Scams
Identity theft is said to be a growing issue for those seeking employment.
Press Release Service - Wired PR News – Identity thieves have reportedly increased their focus on scamming individuals seeking employment. As reported by Business Week Online, job seekers have become a major target of scammers as the number of websites of fake job recruiters trying to con individuals into giving them personal information increases.
Jay Foley with the Identity Theft Resource Center is quoted in the report as stating of the issue, “The job-seeker market has slowly but surely been invaded by scammers.”
As noted by Business Week, experts advise those looking for employment to be cautious in giving out their personal information, and takes steps to verify a company or recruiter’s credibility.
William Morrow with identity-protection services provider CSIdentity, is quoted in the report as stating, “Job seekers are faxing and e-mailing and posting on sites where criminals are trying to attack… Once you get a few pieces of someone’s identity, it’s helpful in getting the rest.”
