Evangelist Charged After Marriages to Young Girls
Evangelist Tony Alamo has been accused of marrying an 8-year-old girl and several underage teens.
Press Release Service – Wired PR News – The trial of evangelist Tony Alamo began this week as prosecutors alleged that the preacher preyed upon several young girls during his ministry, even taking in an 8-year-old wife. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), Alamo, 74, stands accused of taking underage girls across state lines for sex, after marrying and sexually assaulting young followers of his ministry.
Authorities reportedly raided the evangelist’s ministry headquarters in September of last year following the receipt of complaints from former followers regarding child pornography, abuse, and other allegations.
As noted by the AP, Alamo may receive 10 years in prison and a fine of $250,000 for each of the 10 counts on his indictment if convicted. He is currently in prison pending the end of his trial, which is reportedly set to conclude after two weeks.
