Man Shot Near U.S. Capitol
A man was reportedly shot and fatally wounded near the Capitol complex.
Press Release Service – Wired PR News – Police shot and killed a man near the U.S. Capitol on Wednesday. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), the unidentified 35 year-old man refused to stop at a check point and ended up driving the wrong way and striking two police officers with his vehicle. Authorities state the man was armed, refused to put down a brandished gun, and was shot after police opened fire.
U.S. Capitol Police spokeswoman, Sgt. Kim Schneider, is quoted by the AP as stating, “The officers felt they were being threatened — they were in fear for their lives.” Several shots were reportedly heard; however, it is said to be unclear who fired first. The man died after the shooting.
Robert Drumm, a sightseer from out of town who was in the area with family at the time of the incident is quoted in the report as stating, “There were so many gunshots being fired my family got down.”
