The entertainer settles a lawsuit against the Republican Party for copyright infringement.

Press Release Service – Wired PR News – Entertainer Jackson Browne has settled with Arizona Senator John McCain and the Republican Party over a copyright dispute. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), Browne sued the senator, national party, and Ohio Republican Party, who created the ad in dispute, for use of his song in a campaign ad against Barack Obama last year. The ad was reportedly removed following Browne’s complaint.

As noted by the AP, the song, “Running on Empty” was used in the ad to mock the Democrat during the presidential campaign. McCain and the GOP apologized for the incident, and have reportedly vowed to obtain permission from artists for future use of songs for political campaigns. Information on the amount of the settlement has not been released.
