Doctors View Obese Patients Negatively
A new study suggests doctors react negatively to obese patients.
Press Release Service – Wired PR News – A new study suggests that doctors react negatively to obese patients. As reported by Reuters, many physicians in a large healthcare network in New York City were shown by a study to view treating patients who are obese as frustrating.
As noted by Reuters, 399 physicians in three areas of practice were surveyed for the study, which was recently published in the BMC Health Services Research journal, and 40 percent were found to hold the negative view. The study authors are quoted by Reuters as stating of the research outcome, “First, physicians may become disillusioned with years of attempted treatment of obese patients in the face of modest weight loss or even weight gain. Second, obesity management training may be different for recent graduates who practice in an era in which it is widely accepted that even modest weight loss (is) a successful outcome.”
