Advocates of a new bill in the New Jersey Senate Judiciary committee are seeking to restore the legal use of Ladies Night in the state.

Press Release Service – Wired PR News – A bill brought before the Senate Judiciary committee in the state of New Jersey may again authorize the use of Ladies’ Nights in promotions. As reported by the Philadelphia Examiner, if passed the measure would restore the ability of establishments such as nightclubs and bars to legally offer the gender based promotions, which were ruled to be in violation of New Jersey’s Law Against Discrimination in 2004. The ruling stemmed from a man bringing forth a complaint of reverse discrimination in 1998 for having to pay a $5 cover charge at a bar that allowed women to get in free on a designated night.

State Senate Minority Leader Tom Kean Jr. is quoted in the report as stating of the bill, “It is hard enough to operate a small business in this state, which has developed a reputation for regulatory overkill and outright hostility to economic growth… We do not need to make things worse by attacking harmless and nondiscriminatory promotional activities that aid businesses that are struggling in the economic downturn.”
