Study Links Tanning Beds to Cancer
A new study suggests tanning bed use can cause cancer.
Press Release Service – Wired PR News – A new study has linked tanning bed use to cancer. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), international researchers have found tanning beds and ultraviolet radiation to be definite contributors to the development of the disease.
As noted in the report, the experts analyzed 20 studies and determined that those who begin using tanning beds before age 30 increase their risk of developing skin cancer by 75 percent. Cancer researcher Vincent Cogliano is quoted by the AP as stating of the findings, “People need to be reminded of the risks of sunbeds… We hope the prevailing culture will change so teens don’t think they need to use sunbeds to get a tan.”
More information about the study may be found in the recent publication of the Lancet Oncology medical journal online.
