Gender marketers say women are more likely than men to splurge on luxury items like handbags in the recession.

Women have reportedly been consistent with spending on things like handbags and more men have turned to therapy to deal with recession related issues.Press Release Service – Wired PR News – The economic crisis has reportedly had different affects on men and women in general. As reported by Reuters, gender-marketing experts suggest that women have a tendency to better cope with job losses and other issues escalated by the recession due to having to deal with career changes more often than men in general. Men are also said to have more of a propensity to view these losses more as a threat to their identity.Diana Jaffe, an expert in gender marketing is quoted in the report as stating, “Women are also worried about their jobs, but not to the extent that they feel their mere existence is being threatened and so they are in the mood to buy despite the crisis.” Because of this, women have remained more consistent with purchases of luxury items such as handbags, while men are less willing to splurge on such goods.Jaffe is further quoted as stating, “Many male managers are suffering from a huge loss of status, many feel under an enormous amount of pressure or are suffering from burnout. They just don’t have the resources to think about buying luxury goods and prefer to go to a life coach.”WiredPRNews.com - The latest in Health NewsPhoto Credit: Wikipedia User Createursdeluxe
