Police Officers Suspended for Racist Email
Three Grand Prairie police officers have been suspended after distributing racist emails.
Press Release Service – Wired PR News – Three traffic officers in Grand Prairie have been suspended after sending racist emails that reportedly pertain to President Barack Obama. As reported by the Dallas Morning News, officers Tommy Hendrick, Mark Calvert, and Michael Diaz each received 21 day unpaid suspensions for sending the offensive emails on the city’s computers. Public Safety Communications Center employee Debra Willis was also suspended for forwarding racist material via email, however, Willis was given a longer suspension of 28 days without pay.
As noted by the Dallas Morning News, one of the emails stated, “Everyone just relax! When was the last time you heard of a black guy keeping a job for four years,” while another contained an image displaying what looked like the n-word.
Chief Glen Hill with the Grand Prairie Police Department is quoted in the report as writing in his disciplinary actions of the matter, “In each case, these employees have had exemplary careers of service to the community. It is unfortunate that in a thoughtless moment they have blemished those careers and upset members of our community.”
