Sleep Deprivation an Issue for Stressed College Students
A new study shows many college students suffer sleep deprivation due to stress.
Press Release Service – Wired PR News – A new study shows that stress is contributing to a number of college students not getting enough sleep. As reported by HealthDay News, researchers found that of the students surveyed, 68 percent attributed school related and other worries to a lack of sufficient sleep.
University of St. Thomas assistant psychology professor and study co-author Roxanne Prichard is quoted in the report as stating of the findings, “Students underestimate the importance of sleep in their daily lives… They forgo sleep during periods of stress, not realizing that they are sabotaging their physical and mental health.”
A lack of adequate sleep can reportedly lead to a range of health complications including obesity and depression.
