A fight reportedly broke out Friday among inmates leaving several dead or injured.
Press Release Service – Wired PR News – A fight occurring Friday at a Mexico prison has left several inmates dead and others with injuries. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), 19 inmates were killed and 20 more were left with injuries following a fight stated to be linked to a power struggle between prisoners whose convictions are related to drugs or organized crime.
State Public Safety Secretary Jorge Torres Castillo is quoted by the AP as stating of the incident in a Televisa television network interview, “We have a significant number of criminals linked to organized crime… I think it is precisely the federal inmates who disturb the internal dynamics of the penitentiary, and they place the governance of it at constant risk… The penitentiary at Gomez Palacio continues to be a time bomb.”
