As reported by the Associated Press (AP), Hutchinson has stated she will against Rick Perry for Texas Governor, and step down from her post as a U.S. Senator to focus on her 19-city campaign.

As noted by the AP, some suggest the campaign could divide the Republican Party in the state. Bruce Buchanan, a political scientist at the University of Texas, is quoted in the report as stating of the 2010 Republican primary battle, “They’ve already got the gloves off… We haven’t had anything like this in Texas for quite a while.”
