Over 1,300 children have reportedly fallen ill due to lead poisoning.
Press Release Service – Wired PR News – Over 1,300 children in China have been reported ill as a result of lead poisoning. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), the official Xinhua News Agency stated Thursday that a large percentage of children tested who lived near a plant in Wenping township that processes manganese had high levels of lead in their blood.
As noted by the AP, the case is said to be the second incident of this type to occur this month. The number of children found to have lead poisoning is expected to increase due to more being tested. The plant was reportedly shut down last week following suspicions of environmental contamination. Two executives were detained and a general manager is wanted for questioning in relation to the matter.
