A new study proposes that wheat consumption could be a contributor to diabetes.
Press Release Service – Wired PR News – A new study suggests wheat consumption may be linked to diabetes. As reported by HealthDay News, Canadian researchers found that a number of individuals with diabetes have an abnormal immune response to wheat proteins.
Dr. Fraser Scott, study author, scientist, and University of Ottawa professor, is quoted in the report as stating of the findings, “Our research suggests that people with certain genes may be more likely to develop an overreaction to wheat and possibly other foods in the gut, and this may tip the balance with the immune system and make the body more likely to develop other immune problems, such as type 1 diabetes.”
More information about the study may be available in the August release of the Diabetes journal.
