State Fairs Help Those Out of Work
More people are turning to fairs for financial support in the recession.
Press Release Service – Wired PR News – More people are turning to state fairs for employment opportunities amid the economic downturn. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), a record number of individuals are applying for positions at fairs for jobs as food servers, custodians, and other titles to supplement their income, due to an increase in issues with unemployment and underemployment.
Jim Tucker, CEO of the International Association of Fairs and Exhibitions is quoted by the AP as stating, “We seem to be one of those sectors of the economy that we’re doing quite well… Not only are we not down, we’re up.”
Richard Briggs, a financial analyst who is out of work and has taken a job cleaning bathrooms in buildings at the Minnesota State Fair, says the money he earns from working at the fair helps significantly with the family budget. He is quoted by the AP as stating, “We have a mortgage to pay and mouths to feed.”
