Late Night Snacking May Induce Weight Gain

A new study suggests that eating closer to bedtime may lead to weight gain.
Press Release Service – Wired PR News – A new study suggests that giving in to late night snack cravings can lead to weight gain. As reported by Reuters, a recent study on mice showed that timing of when one eats can determine how the calories consumed will affect the body.
As noted in the report, researchers suggest the study may aid in human weight loss. Fred Turek of Northwestern University in Illinois and fellow researchers are quoted by Reuters as writing of their findings, “Simply modifying the time of feeding alone can greatly affect body weight… Mice fed a high-fat diet only during the ‘right’ feeding time (i.e., during the dark) weigh significantly less than mice fed only during the time when feeding is normally reduced (i.e., during the light).”
More about the study may be found in the recent publication of the International Journal of Obesity.
