Founder of The Weather Channel Passes Away

Frank Batten Sr. has died at the age of 82.
Press Release Distribution – Wired PR News – Communications entrepreneur Frank Batten Sr. has passed away at the age of 82. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), Batten, who founded The Weather Channel in 1982, died Thursday after a long illness.
Batten is quoted by the AP as previously stating of the launching of The Weather Channel, “It was Landmark’s first national venture, with all the complexities of marketing and distribution a national enterprise must consider… The staff prevailed over a chorus from skeptics in the press and trade to build one of the most loyal consumer audiences in television.”
AP President and CEO Tom Curley is further quoted in the report as stating of Batten’s contributions to the press organization, “He played a pivotal role in helping AP transition to a modern organization for a more competitive, global era of news-gathering.”
