New Study May Benefit Patients with MS
Researchers find possible gene link to how patients respond to treatment for multiple sclerosis.
Press Release Service – Wired PR News – Researchers have found a possible link between two genes and how receptive the body may be to treatment for multiple sclerosis in patients who have the disease. As reported by HealthDay News, the discovery may have implications for advancing treatment for the disease.
Allan Bieber, Mayo Clinic neuroscientist and study author, is quoted in the report as stating in a news release of the research, “Most MS genetic studies have looked at disease susceptibility — or why some people get MS and others do not… This study asked, among those who have MS, why do some do well with the disease while others do poorly, and what might be the genetic determinants of this difference in outcome.”
A presentation of the study was reportedly set to be given at the Congress of the European Committee for Treatment and Research in Multiple Sclerosis in Dusseldorf, Germany Friday.
