Press Release Service – Wired PR News – Actor Patrick Swayze died Monday after battling pancreatic cancer for over a year, as reported by the Associated Press (AP). The star of hit film such as “Dirty Dancing” and “Ghost” was diagnosed with the disease early last year.
Swayze’s publicist, Annett Wolf, is quoted by the AP as releasing the statement following his death, “Patrick Swayze passed away peacefully today with family at his side after facing the challenges of his illness for the last 20 months.”
Swayze is quoted in the report as stating during a “Stand up to Cancer” event last year, “I keep dreaming of a future, a future with a long and healthy life, a life not lived in the shadow of cancer, but in the light. … I dream that the word ‘cure’ will no longer be followed by the words ‘is impossible.”
Swayze was 57 years old. He is survived by his wife Lisa Niemi, whom he married in 1975.
