Recession Compels Many to Sell Their Burial Plots
Some people are choosing to sell off their burial plots in order to pay bills.
Press Release Service – Wired PR News – The recession has prompted a number of individuals to resort to selling off their burial plots in order to pay bills. As reported by The Wall Street Journal, the marketplace for plots has grown significantly in terms of people looking to liquidate them due to falling on hard times.
Caskets-N-More owner Olga Fernandez is quoted in the report as stating of the trend, “If a customer has something that’s worth $3,000, that could pay for utility bills and living expenses… They’re not thinking of the future. They have something they’re able to sell and get money for now.”
Other factors are also stated to come into play with the decision of many to sell their burial plots including lifestyle changes and a higher number of people being open to cremation.
