Press Release Service – Wired PR News – Facebook has taken down a poll in which users were asked whether President Barack Obama should be assassinated. As reported by AFP, the U.S. Secret Service is in the process of trying to identify who the poll was generated by.

One Facebook user is quoted in the report as stating of the poll, which was launched this past weekend via a third party application, “This is sick and sad… All of this anti-Obama rage is pure racism.”

Facebook spokesman Barry Schnitt, is quoted by AFP as stating of the matter, “People were usually doing trivial polls like asking friends where they should go for dinner or what they thought of a certain movie… Then there was the offensive one created by an individual user.”

Schnitt is further quoted as stating, “Of course we are offended by the content of the poll but objectionable ideas are in the world and, unfortunately, manifest on Facebook… We felt we dealt with it in a responsible way by removing it as quick as we were notified.”
