Press Release Service – Wired PR News – Residents of areas in the Philippines that have been impacted by a recent deadly Tropical Storm are posting about their devastation on social media networks. As reported by the San Francisco Chronicle, many flood victims are using sites like YouTube and Twitter to detail the need for food and supplies as well as attempt to maintain contact with missing friends and relatives.

As noted in the report, the typhoon has led to the deaths of at least 240 people and has left thousands homeless. Rene Astudillo with the Lupus Foundation of Northern California, is quoted by the Chronicle as stating, “I think a lot of people are getting the news basically through postings on Facebook… Getting the kind of direct reports, photos and video from the man on the street in the Philippines or elsewhere (is) a good way for people to know what’s happening.”
