GM to Close Saturn After Broken Deal
The automaker opts to stop producing the Saturn brand after a deal falls through.
Press Release Service – Wired PR News – General Motors Corp. will soon add Saturn to the list of brands the company is shutting down. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), GM has decided to close the brand after a deal with Penske Automotive Group Inc. recently fell through, due to Penske having trouble finding a manufacturer to take over production after GM stops making the line.
Carl Galeana, who owns two Saturn dealerships in Detroit, is quoted by the AP as stating of the news, “I find this hard to believe… Everyone’s been saying we’re right at the goal line.”
As noted in the report, layoffs are not expected to result from the change because plants in which Saturns are manufactured are used for the production of other products as well.
