Insurance Man Faces Stalking Charges in ESPN Reporter Video Scandal
Michael David Barrett has been accused of secretly videotaping the reporter in the nude and attempting to sell the recordings.
Press Release Service – Wired PR News – A man regarded as a “regular guy” has been accused of secretly video-taping ESPN reporter Erin Andrews and trying to sell the footage. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), Michael David Barrett, was arrested on stalking charges Friday after being identified as the person who recorded Andrews through a peephole in her hotel room and posted them online. He may reportedly receive up to five years in prison and $250,000 in fines if found guilty of the charges.
Rick Beuke, an attorney for Barrett, is quoted by the AP as stating of his client, “I don’t think he’s even had a traffic ticket… He’s as regular a guy as you’ll ever meet — a great friend.”
Andrews, is quoted in the report as releasing the statement regarding the case against Barrett, “For my part, I will make every effort to strengthen the laws on a state and federal level to better protect victims of criminal stalking.”
