Green linked to better mental health

A new study suggests being around greenery can have a positive impact on an individual’s well being.
Paris, France (WiredPRNews.com) – A new study links green to better health. As reported by AFP, researchers found that people who live around parks and areas containing greenery have lessoned incidents of depression and are generally healthier than those who do not.
As noted in the report, researchers used the health records of 350,000 people in the Netherlands, and found that those living in greener areas had a lower incidence of a number of diseases including respiratory, mental, and cardiovascular.
The authors are quoted by AFP as writing in their conclusion of the findings, “This study shows that the role of green space in the living environment should not be underestimated.”
More information about the study may be found in Britain’s Society for Social Medicine’s official publication, the Journal of Epidemiology and Community Health.
